ETC655: Open Network Technology Training Notes
Dear ETC655 students,
It is great to see many of you have started rehearing your training sessions. Here are a few procedures to inform you.
This is a highlight event in ETC. ETC alumni, faculty, and students may attend your sessions. They know this is a best opportunity to learn something new. ETC alumni went through your process when they were in the program. I hope you will come back to learn from future ETC655 students. That is the reason why call it ETC Community online Professional Development sessions.
You are the host of the session. I will not interrupt your session. I am one of the audiences. Remember, we may have non-ETC655 students participate in our sessions and many may watch the recordings.
Use "ETC655 Collaborate Ultra" NOT your own group room.
Opening
· Start on time (No need to wait for me)
· Start the recording (Avoid recording pre-session conversations)
· Introduce your group and the topics
· Remind the audience
o to mute their microphone
o you have a survey to conduct at the end of the session
o to log off the session at the end and come back for the next session; otherwise, the recording will not be finalized.
· Start your session
· Consider having one person to monitor the chat session/chat. Often the audiences engage in the side conversations and asking questions.
Closing
· Complete the session on time
· Provide some take-away points to reinforce your session
· Remind the audience to fill out your survey
· Stop the recording
· Remind the audience to log off and invite them to come back for the next session, if any.
Here are a few tips for you to plan, design, and delivery your session effectively and efficiently.
· Training sessions are more than lecturing or demonstration.
· Engage the audience to do something to learn
· Use video cautiously. Avoid overusing it so your session doesn't become just watching video clips. Remember "engage" your audiences interactively and actively. Ask yourselves this question: what are the values for people to participate your session "live?" If a live session is no different from a recording one, what are the values to participate live ones?
· If integrating voting features, how can we use it creatively to engage audiences?
I am looking forward to your sessions.
Regards,
Chih
