Instructor’s Notes: Next Week: Assignment 3 Network Training Sessions

ETC655 Assignment Network Training schedules and topics have been finalized and to be presented next week.  See the dates and times for each group's training topic.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn network technologies from our classmates.  Please feel free to invite anyone who is interested in our online PDs.  Frequently, ETC alumni and faculties attend the training session live and access the recordings.   We may have classroom teachers to attend the training sessions live and to access the recordings.

  • Don't forget that you need to attend at least ONE live session.
    • Each student must attend at least one training session provided by other groups.
    • Participating more than one session is highly encouraged. In the past, most students participate 3-4 sessions.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about ONLE technologies and integration from the peers.
  • Sign up the sessions that you plan to attend; therefore, the presenters know how many audiences to expect. The presenters may have training materials for the participants. Sign-up.

·         As the presenters you can view the sign-up responses and learn who and how many audiences you can expect. Sign-Up responses:

Here are a few notes for you to prepare your network training session.  This is a great way to conduct online professional development (PD) and share our knowledge and skills with the community.

  • Instructor: I will participate in all live training sessions with others.
  • Recording: Start recording before your start the session.
  • Start your session on time.  Be preparing to solve any technical problems that you may encounter.  I will not interrupt your session unless necessary.
  • It is an INTERACTIVE training session not just a presentation or lecturing.  Apply effective ONLE instructional strategies "TO ENGAGE" the audiences rather than just presenting the content (selected web 2.0 tool).  Just presenting/lecturing doesn't meet the requirements.
  • Audiences: Some audiences may participate in our training sessions live but many will watch your recorded sessions. When you conduct your training session, remember we have off-line audiences.
  • Sign Off: Between sessions, all participants MUST sign off before a new session starts; therefore, the recorded session can be finalized.  Remind the audiences to sign off after the session.
  • Rehearse: It is highly recommended to rehearse your session so you have better understanding in using different features of Ultra and ensure all technologies work seamlessly, particularly the audio and video are the most common encountered programs. Test them out first. Use your group's Ultra room to rehearse. The actual session will be delivered in "ETC655 Collaborate Ultra (For A3 Training Sessions)"
  • Watching video clips: It is relevant to integrate video clips for your sessions.  Generally, it is better to have the audiences to watch the clips on their own then come back to room.  Watching video on BBLearn Collaborate could experience bandwidth issues. More importantly, think about is it necessary to watch video clips or the audiences can watch them after the session. So, it gives your session more time to engage in highly effective instructions.
  • Quiet Environment: When presenting, be sure you have a quiet surrounding without any interference, such as background noise, phone ringing, dog barking, and people talking etc.
  • Facilitation: One group member can facilitate the chat room. Frequently, audiences use chat room to engage in the conversation.
  • Q: Can I invite my colleagues to participate the session?
    • A: Yes. The session is open anyone who has interests.  Frequently, we see ETC alumni attend the sessions because they know this is the best way to learn new technologies and technology integrations.
