Lesson 1: Instructor's Notes #1

Q: What should we do differently on the lesson discussions in ETC655?

A:

Response format: For the initial postings to answer key questions, we should remain the same with high quality postings that address the questions comprehensively with logic and robust justification. Most of you did fine in ETC645.

One student asked whether we can use this format to present our responses:

·           Guide question #1

    • Your responses

·           Guide question #2

    • Your responses

Yes, you are encouraged to do so.

You may notice if you do not post well thought out initial postings, likely you will be asked to justify your arguments.

Engage in One-Many or Many-Many interaction rather than One-One. In one posting, you can address more than one classmate's posting. Use the greetings, like "John, Mary, and Andy, ….your responses," In this method, it will support you to build a better learning network and go beyond one-one interaction. See my postings for the examples.

Deepen your critical thinking skills, particularly reach the "Resolution" stage, see below for the Inquiry Learning Model for more information.

• Apply Inquiry Learning Model (Garrison, Anderson, & Archer, 2000) to improve the quality of your posting and critical thinking skills.

• Apply Advanced Interaction Strategy to enhance your interaction.
